Working With Dr. Ken

I have over a decade of experience problem solving pelvic health challenges. Even if you have tried physical therapy elsewhere, my broad toolkit can give you more options for getting better.

A typical pelvic health physical therapy session looks like:

  • Discussing your issue for 15 to 30 minutes
  • Reviewing options for examination of the pelvis
  • These can include self-examination as well as internal pelvic examination if indicated
  • Developing a plan to get to your goals

✅ I work with people one-on-one in my private office. There are no aides or an open gym.

✅ I see clients of all ages and genders. I treat people under age 18 with a referral from a medical provider.

✅ The number of visits each person needs varies, but I typically see people for 2 to 6 visits. Visits can occur in the office, or as a mix of in-person and virtual sessions. Most people are notably better after 2 to 3 months of care.

Conditions Treated By Dr. Ken

Bladder Care

One of the most common issues I help people overcome is bladder leakage.

Bladder leakage can happen with urgency—think coming home and putting the key in the door—or with activities, such as jogging and laughing.

Treatment for bladder issues looks like identifying patterns unique to your bladder and helping you establish connection to your bladder through breathing and awareness. If indicated, I’ll also teach you exercises to help stop leakage. These exercises often go beyond pelvic floor muscle contractions (also known as Kegels), and can include squats, hip strengthening, and abdominal strengthening. If bladder pain is an issue for you, we may also include gentle hands-on work as well as instruction in self-massage to care for the bladder.

Pelvic pain

People suffering from pelvic pain often feel like there is no hope. It can be isolating to sit out activities from pain. If pelvic pain limits sexual function, it can be doubly isolating.

When it comes to pelvic pain, I listen to your story. From there, we go over options for examination and treatment. Consent is key—nothing happens without it. Possible interventions for pelvic pain include: relaxation activities, stretching, muscle balancing, and hands-on work.

I am often asked if I do internal pelvic floor examinations and treatment. Yes I do! I have been performing internal work for over 10 years and I train other healthcare workers how to do internal work, too. It’s important to note that internal work is only part of a treatment session if a client chooses to include it in their care—it is not required.

Bowel Care

Bowel issues can be some of the most challenging to treat.

These include rectal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and fecal incontinence.

When it comes to improving bowel health, I start with a detailed history to look for patterns with food, fluids, and activities. With that information, I will help you identify where change can happen to have better wellness in your pelvis.

Gender Care

Two-Spirit, transgender, and gender diverse people have unique needs when it comes to pelvic health. You deserve a provider that understands dysphoria can increase at any time, and it’s not always mentally safe to directly address the pelvis. I teach clients movement and breathing tools that can take the emphasis off the pelvis, while still improving symptoms in the pelvis.

During our sessions, I respect that there might be topics you don’t want to discuss. I also will only use the terms you chose for your anatomy.

If there is anything else you need to feel safe during appointments, I am happy to adjust sessions to meet your needs.
